Going on a trip? Check out the lists below to make sure you have everything in place before you go...
First, does the trip fit into a progression from simple, short, age appropriate trips to longer, more complex, age appropriate trips?
Second, do you have enough volunteer-screened adults for the number of girls?
Daisies: 2 unrelated adults per each 6 girls, and additional adult for each additional 4 girls
Brownies: 2 unrelated adults per each 12 girls, and additional adult for each additional 6 girls
Juniors: 2 unrelated adults per each 16 girls, and additional adult for each additional 8 girls
Cadettes: 2 unrelated adults per each 20 girls, and additional adult for each additional 10 girls
Seniors/Ambassadors: 2 unrelated adults per each 24 girls, and additional adult for each additional 12 girls
Third, do you have enough drivers (who are also volunteer-screened) to transport all of the girls?
Drivers need to be registered/volunteer screened Girl Scout members, over 21, with active license and insurance.
Do you have the appropriate booster seats for all Girl Scouts (no Girl Scout <13 in the front seat).
Fourth, how far are you traveling? Does it fit with the recommendations per age level?
Daisies: local trips or Council events
Brownies: within 100 miles of their community
Juniors: 150+ miles with previous successful overnight trips locally
Cadettes: Within the US or Canada with previous successful overnight trips
Senior/Ambassadors: Anywhere within the continental US or overseas with previous successful overnight trips
Fifth, do you have at least one adult with all of the correct training? (It does not have to be a leader.)
Day trip: Leader training, First Aid/CPR recommended
Outdoor day at campsite: Leader training, First Aid/CPR recommended, Outdoor day training
Overnights (not camping): Leader training, First Aid/CPR recommended, Troop Trips II training
Overnights (not camping, >3 nights): Leader training, FA/CPR recommended, Troop Trips II and Advanced Trip training
Overnight camping: Leader training, FA/CPR required, Outdoor Day training, Troop Camp Training
Overnight off trail camping or backpacking: Same as camping, plus GSSNE Hiking/Backpacking course, FA/CPR required
Sixth, do you have the proper notifications and paperwork done? Do you have enough time to get it done?
Day trip/any meeting away from regular meeting site: Notify SUM by email; no paperwork
Outdoor day at campsite: Register for Outdoor Day site at GSSNE reservation site at least 1 month in advance
Overnights (not camping): Intent-to-travel form at least 2 months in advance
If going to a museum through GSSNE, no intent-to-travel form needed; just register for program at GSSNE, notify SUM
If going to a museum not through GSSNE, register for the program through the host, Intent-to-travel form, notify SUM
Overnights camping at non-GSSNE site, including backyard sleepovers: Intent-to-travel form at least 1 month in advance
Overnights camping at GSSNE site: Troop camp reservation; 1 month
Overnights with off trail camping or backpacking: Intent-to-travel form, troop camp reservation at least 1 month in advance
**** With all intent-to-travel forms, you will need to submit a liability insurance form from the location if GSSNE does not yet
have it on file for the calendar year. You will be notified if they need it.****

If you have it all in place, you are set. Enjoy yourself! Have fun with your Girl Scouts!
